Harry first came to our attention as a very young puppy after concerns were raised about a severely abnormal front paw. The paw appeared extremely soft and unstable, lacking normal strength and structure. On examination, Harry was diagnosed with rickets, a condition affecting bone development caused by nutritional deficiency during growth.
Harry entered our care for treatment and monitoring. At that stage, he remained with a trusted community carer while receiving support for his condition. His treatment focused on managing the rickets through nutritional intervention, supplementation, monitoring of bone development and supportive care as he grew.
During this period, Harry suddenly became seriously unwell with severe bloody diarrhoea. Further veterinary assessment confirmed parvovirus infection. Due to the seriousness of the disease, Harry was transferred into our direct care for intensive treatment and monitoring. He responded positively to treatment and survived the infection.
Following recovery from parvovirus, Harry was transferred to our veterinary partners in Ankara for continued health tracking and developmental monitoring due to his difficult early medical history.
Harry later moved into the sanctuary project. While living there, he developed distemper. Thankfully, because Harry had previously been vaccinated, the illness presented in a much milder form than is often seen with this disease. He recovered well with supportive veterinary care and ongoing monitoring.
Some time later, Harry developed severe papilloma virus lesions. The condition became extensive enough that cryosurgery was required in order to remove the affected tissue and improve his comfort and quality of life. Harry recovered successfully following the procedure.
