Patient Stella

We first met Stella during our Trek To Turkey fundraiser campaign supporting spay and neuter work for street dogs. Stella became one of the first dogs assisted through the programme and underwent sterilisation as part of those efforts.

Some time later, Stella came back under our care after being involved in a road traffic collision. She had collided with a vehicle and sustained a fracture to her leg which required surgical repair. Stella underwent veterinary treatment and surgery to stabilise the injury and entered a recovery period following the procedure.

Not long after recovering from the first incident, Stella became the victim of a second hit and run collision. This time her injuries were far more severe. She suffered a catastrophic elbow injury which could not be reconstructed successfully due to the extent of the trauma.

Following veterinary assessment, amputation was deemed the only viable option to relieve pain and preserve Stella’s quality of life. Stella underwent limb amputation surgery and remained under ongoing care and monitoring during recovery.

Stella’s case highlights the repeated dangers faced by free-roaming dogs and the long-term veterinary support often required following traumatic injury. Despite multiple serious incidents, she continued to receive treatment and care aimed at restoring comfort, mobility and stability.
