Izzy was admitted after sustaining multiple deep traumatic wounds believed to have been caused by machinery.
The most severe injuries are concentrated around the head and throat area, with extensive tissue damage requiring ongoing wound management, cleaning, medication, and close veterinary supervision.
Izzy is currently undergoing difficult treatment and remains in a fragile condition.
Blood test results have also indicated a serious underlying infection which is now being investigated further by the veterinary team. Due to the severity of the wounds and the infection markers present in the bloodwork, Izzy requires intensive monitoring while treatment plans continue to be adjusted based on her response and overall stability.
At this stage, the focus remains on:
- infection control
- wound management
- pain relief
- stabilisation
- ongoing assessment of tissue healing
Izzy’s condition remains serious and her recovery is expected to be challenging.
Testing has shown significant anaemia alongside indicators consistent with a substantial underlying infection or inflammatory response. Platelet levels are also slightly reduced, increasing concern around Izzy’s overall condition and healing ability while treatment continues.
Izzy’s Update
Izzy will require significant ongoing care for the rest of her life as she is living with advanced leishmaniasis. With the kind permission of her previous carers, Izzy transferred into our care in July and is now under the supervision of Dr Bahri.
Her leishmaniasis is currently under control, and she has joined the rest of our pack. Izzy is an older girl and has some dental problems that will need attention as soon as she is strong enough to undergo treatment safely.
She has started mixing with the other dogs and is settling in beautifully. For the first time in her life, Izzy is discovering the comfort of living indoors and she absolutely adores it.
