Spaying and neutering cats and dogs is a crucial step in controlling the stray population and ensuring the well-being of animals. By preventing births, we can reduce the number of strays, leading to fewer animals living on the streets or in shelters.
Furthermore, spaying and neutering contribute to better health for dogs & cats. These procedures can decrease the risk of certain cancers and eliminate the risk of unwanted pregnancies. They also often lead to improved behaviour, as dogs & cats are less likely to roam, fight, or exhibit other disruptive behaviours associated with mating instincts.
By actively promoting spaying and neutering, we can take significant steps toward creating a more compassionate and responsible community for both our cats and dogs. It’s a small act with enormous benefits let’s spread the word and encourage everyone to participate!
Current programme update – July 2026
Dog Desk Animal Action remains committed to humane population management through spay and neuter programmes. Changes affecting the management of free-roaming dogs in Türkiye have significantly restricted the dog sterilisation and return work we are currently able to undertake there.
We continue to sterilise cats and, where legally permissible, dogs, while supporting sterilisation programmes in other locations. The photographs and videos below document programmes carried out, funded or supported by Dog Desk Animal Action over previous years.
